Review of Gestalt Principles used in Computer Games
Abstract
Our goal in this paper is to review the use of Gestalt Principles in computer games. Our hypothesis is that Gestalt Principles can be used in games to improve user engagement with the Graphical User Interface (GUI) and this in turn affects User Experience (UX). First, we define the key elements of the Gestalt, as they apply to graphic design. Then, we demonstrate how Gestalt Principles are used in computer games and discuss how this may affect consumer behaviour and GUI design for games.
