Entry requirements for international students
Admissions pathway options
AIE Institute welcomes international students from all backgrounds and provides several admissions pathways to assist you with meeting the entry requirements.
Entry requirements for international students:
Entry is available to applicants that can provide both of the following:
- A Senior Secondary School Certificate (certificate and transcripts must be translated and verified); and
- Evidence of English Proficiency, such as IELTS (or equivalent) minimum score of 6.0 overall, with no individual band score less than 5.5;
Alternatively, applicants are required to have both of the following:
- Completed a foundation studies program or recognised preparatory program or diploma (or higher) from an accredited Australian education institution or have completed an international equivalent qualification; and
- Evidence of English Proficiency, such as IELTS (or equivalent) minimum score of 6.0 overall, with no individual band score less than 5.5;
Applicants are required to attend an interview and present a portfolio.
Accepted students must be at least 18 years old at the start of their degree program.
Interview
As part of your application, we will organise an interview to assess your suitability for the course. Common questions asked in the interview relate to educational history, learning goals and long-term career aspirations. We're interested in seeing work from your portfolio and understanding what skills and knowledge you bring into the course.
Portfolio
Bachelor of Game Development majoring in Game Art applicants
An art portfolio should display creative ability using a medium the applicant is most familiar with, whether pen, pencil or charcoal or a particular type of software, such as Adobe Photoshop. It should demonstrate the applicant’s ability to take the creative process from concept to presentation and may include sketches, paintings, video clips, animation, multimedia, sculpture, photography, life drawing and graphic design. Applicants will be sent a link before their interview to upload your work to a online folder. You can also bring in copies on USB drive or as a physical portfolio.
Bachelor of Game Development majoring in Game Design applicants
A design portfolio can include any design work the applicant has done, such as a game, a user interface, an industrial product or an object with a specific function. It should demonstrate the applicant’s ability to take the creative process from concept to presentation, and may include written and visual work which can be instructional, informative or entertaining. Applicants will be sent a link before their interview to upload your work to a online folder. You can also bring in copies on USB drive or as a physical portfolio.
Bachelor of Game Development majoring in Game Programming applicants
A programming portfolio should show an aptitude for programming shown through programming or scripting in any language. We would like to see actual code samples as well as the compiled working application. In previous years students have brought in projects they have coded, games, web development projects, mobile applications, multimedia projects and game mods. Applicants will be sent a link before their interview to upload your work to a online folder. You can also bring in copies on USB drive or as a physical portfolio.
Articulation pathways
AIE Institute has an articulation agreement with the Academy of Interactive Entertainment (AIE). Applicants may be granted advanced standing into an AIE Institute Bachelor course if they have successfully completed an AIE Advanced Diploma according to the agreement.
Exit pathways
An exit pathway may be appropriate if you are unable to complete the remainder of your course, and gives you options to transfer to another course of study. AIE Institute provides exit pathways from its bachelor courses into accredited vocational education and training (VET) courses with the Academy of Interactive Entertainment Limited (AIE).
