Review of Core Graphic Design Principles Used in Computer Games

Abstract

Our goal in this paper is to review the use of core graphic design principles in computer games. We believe that the architecture of great Graphical User Interface (GUI) design is built upon a solid foundation of core graphic design principles. First, we define core principles used in graphic design, such as the grid, hierarchy, scale, balance, and framing. Then, we analyse the examples of core graphic design principles in computer games. Our findings state that there is evidence of all being utilised, despite the disparity in game genre.
